Bolton 2008
The first show of the new season was held mid January at a new venue—St Joseph’s High School.
Opinions are divided as to whether this new venue was any better than the old one, but parking was definitely a lot easier, although this meant the organisers had tried to cram in more clubs and traders. There was a good turnout of people, more it seemed, than in previous years. At times it reminded me of the good old “push & shove” days of when the Nationals were held at Donnington (showing my age now!!). I felt a bit sorry for a couple of clubs and some traders that had been stuck in a back classroom and seemed to get overlooked by many of the visitors.
As usual the only competition was a themed one. This years it was “Airfix”. This was duly won by John Lingwood with HMS Ajax. The theme announced for next years competition was stars and stripes. Better get my thinking hat on!!
The organisers had made a commendable job of setting up the show and deserve credit for adjusting to the new venue so well.
Ben.
